Sarah + Josh | Black Hills Engagement Session | Black Hills Wedding Photographer

We got to photograph Sarah & Josh’s engagement session at one of my favorite Black Hills locations. It’s always a little bit of a crazy drive to get up here, but these two were down for the ride and trusted my crazy ideas. Once you reach the top and have that beautiful view of Crow Peak, it’s definitely worth it. Since the sun was still a little high in the sky, we drove down the road and found a beautiful little field with golden sunlight for their first 2 outfits. Diffused sunlight is my favorite and you can’t beat Black Hills golden hour. And their outfit choices were amazing! I send out a style guide to my engaged couples to help them choose their outfits to best fit my style of photography, and these guys nailed it. These are also complete naturals - they didn’t even need my directions and posing and we had them dancing and laughing in no time.

For their last outfit, we drove back to the ledge just as the sun was setting over Crow Peak. Sarah & Josh were adventurous and decided to jump onto the rocky outcropping for a better viewpoint, and it was so worth it. What you can’t see in these photos is how hard it is to get to where they’re standing, but they rocked it. And look at that light! I decided to underexpose my last set of photos so we could get as much of the remaining sunset colors as possible, and then they did a final outfit change with the fading sun and colors. It was a dreamy evening and we had such gorgeous weather - combine that with the fact that these two are so easy to pose - it made my job a breeze. I cannot wait until their wedding next year!!
