Liv + Lincoln | Black Hills Coastal Engagement Session

I lovingly refer to my style as “coastal romantic” because I love soft blue hues, coastal vibes, and love stories. But living in the Midwest, it’s sometimes hard to incorporate this style into my photo sessions. I had been eyeing Orman all summer hoping to do a session out here. It’s one of our favorite places to go boating, and the sunsets lately (the few times I’ve had time to go to the lake, ha) have been incredible. We usually get beautiful blues, pinks, and purples and with the lack of trees on the horizon, we can almost pretend we’re at the ocean. So when I approached Liv & Lincoln with my idea, they trusted me and we went for it. And they were an absolute dream couple to work with, too!

We got to the lake about an hour and a half before sunset, so we started with their first outfit. I kind of joke that the first 15 minutes are a great practice run for our poses. Many of our couples have never had professional photos taken together as a couple, so this is my opportunity to walk them through posing and help make them feel as comfortable and natural as possible. We walked along the beach, found some beautiful driftwood, and even some beautiful diffused sunlight with the trees. For their second outfit, we chased the dropping sun on the other side of the lake and were treated to spectacular sunset colors. Liv also had a dreamy Bohme dress on that photographed so well with my style. I’m already counting down the days until these cuties get married next summer - it’s going to be the best day!
