When I first heard that Kacie & Jake were having “black & red” for their wedding colors, I was a little nervous. My style is usually on the lighter side and sometimes these colors can appear heavy and reds can be tricky to edit. But when I arrived to their beautifully decorated venue the morning of their wedding, I was shocked. It was incredible! It was Coca-Cola themed with all sorts of handmade details. Kacie’s mom spent the last year making paper roses and decor for their wedding, and you can tell that so much thought and love went into this special day. We don’t get themed weddings often, and this one was so much fun.
I was also a little worried because we had been planning on a first look for these two for the last few months, and then they decided they wanted to wait to see one another until they were walking down the aisle. AND curveball: dinner was going to be served just a quick hour after the ceremony start time. Needless to say, I was a panicked photographer for sure! Most photographers prefer first looks so we have adequate time on the wedding day for bride & groom and bridal party photos. And if we switch to a traditional look, we bump dinner quite a bit later so we have time for photos. But Jake & Kacie told me how much a traditional look meant to them, and everything else in the timeline was set, so I knew I had to put all my skills to the test to make it work.
Right as Kacie walked down the aisle, it started to rain. Like REALLY rain. Yet, the sun was out in the background and it gave us the most dreamy ceremony photos. There was even a rainbow after the ceremony ended. My fast-talking came in handy as we whipped through the family photos and bridal party photos, and then I had about 10 minutes to rock the bride & groom photos. But we DID IT! I was pretty proud of myself for getting all of the photos we needed in time to get these cuties to their dinner with their guests, and we even had the most gorgeous golden sunlight for them, too. DJ Marek was in charge of the reception - and he had the dance floor packed all night long. He’s the best in the business and we knew we could count on him for amazing dancing shots. We love working with such talented vendors - it ended up being the best day and we were so honored to be a small part of it.
