Tyra & Brock Penfield | The Barn at Aspen Acres | Spearfish, SD

When Tyra reached out to us to photograph her wedding and we found out she was a photographer herself, I was super excited. Photographing another photographer is always a tremendous honor but it can also be a bit nerve-wracking. Tyra knows the business and we wanted to make sure their day was perfect. But their engagement session was a breeze so I knew these two would make our jobs easy. They are truly a dream couple and they have so much chemistry together, posing them came naturally. 

 Winter weddings can be beautiful, but they are also unpredictable. We were met sunshine and a little snow but 50-60 mph wind gusts. Then the spot we wanted to go to in Spearfish Canyon was completely covered in ice. But when you have a rockstar team of vendors, you adjust and make magic happen. And that’s exactly what we all did. After getting ready at the barn, we drove into the canyon and got to photograph their first look with spectacular canyon views in the back. And I’m always going to be a happy photographer when we get to incorporate a classic car – bonus points: it was blue!! Tyra had so many pops of teal throughout her day that helped bring my style to life, and I also love that their bridal party was completely in black. It was so classy and elegant, especially with the beautiful Aspen Acres as the venue. 

And one of my favorite aspects of their wedding day was the little blue heart sewn onto Tyra’s dress in honor of her father – and then her sweet brother got to walk her down the aisle and share a special dance together. There weren’t many dry eyes around, that’s for sure. This was such an incredible wedding with so many beautiful details, amazing vendors, and wonderful friends and family members and we loved celebrating with everyone. Here’s to the new Mr. and Mrs. Penfield!
